Outdoor Wall Art

There's one thing missing from my terrace: wall art.  The wall space outside is very limited, if you can even call it wall space, but I have one spot that I'm just dying to put something on.  I've been looking for outdoor canvas art, but really haven't found anything.  And you can bet I've been searching the 4 Home Goods that I frequent.  My neighbors have stuff like metal art or clay hanging planters on their little walls.  I thought about putting up an outdoor clock with a temperature gauge on it but I haven't liked the ones I've seen along the way.  So the other day, on my way to Home Goods of course (is this confession time?), I stopped into Pier1 to switch things up a bit.  Well, I found the coolest thing ever!  It's so cool that I was trying to figure out if I had any place at all to put it, even if it didn't fit the outside (tiny) wall.  It's called the "Mirrored Damask Panel" and here's what it looks like.  Sorry, this is the best picture I could get, it's from the pier1 website.  Here is the link in case you want to see more info:

The panel isn't made for outside use, but I think it would be okay on the wall.  My terrace is covered and that wall never gets direct wetness (yes, that's right, I said direct wetness).  I would totally chance it for this beauty.  I just hope they still have it when I'm ready to buy it.  I have to wait a few months, new job and all.

So, I searched through all of my pictures for one that showed the wall I'm talking about and this is the best I could find (sorry, I'll have to take some).  Here is a pic from last year when I first planted flowers.  The wall is to the right.  It's narrow but the panel would fit!  The terrace door opens into that wall but so what! I mostly sit out there with the door closed anyway!

Okay, so I'll keep you posted on whether or not I get the panel!  I really want it!!!!!!! Hopefully, it's a question of when and not if.  Who knows, maybe I'll find something else I like better on one of my many trips to... well, you know where...

Spring Is In The Air!

Spring has come once again.  The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, the trees are filling out with luscious green and the intermingling spring fragrances permeate the air. It can mean only one thing, time to deck my terrace out with flowers and decorations.

I posted about my terrace before.  Last year, I purchased outdoor furniture including an outdoor rug and an umbrella.  For flowers, I chose a color theme last year of purple, yellow and white.  This time around, I decided to kick it up a notch and add more variety in the types of flowers and also  I added RED.  Last year, I was looking for some kind of buddha statue or something to put in one of the corners of my terrace.  I actually purchased a few things and then returned them all.  Nothing felt right.  Well, I happened upon this buddha statue the other day at my favorite store, Home Goods.  I took a few days to think about it and I decided that I like it.  Let me know if you do to.

Yesterday, I went to Home Depot to take a look at their flowers and I overheard people talking about Stew Leonard's having better flowers.  So, I went there instead and man did it pay off!  They had so much to choose from and many varieties.  Okay, I made you wait long enough, here's the statue and the flowers pre-planting.

It was nice that I didn't have to buy all of the flower boxes and hanging pots this time around.  It was fairly quick to set up too.  I had the brackets ready to go from the prior year and all I had to do what to put them on the railing where I wanted them.  The flowers are beautiful now but they are going to be even more spectacularly beautiful when they grow in!  Here are some close ups.

Those purple flowers right above are so tiny, you wouldn't believe it from the picture.

From all of these:

To these:

I can't get one picture that shows the whole terrace.  I wish I could but since I can't, you get various views.

Just wait until the flowers grow more.  I'll have to take more pics then.

No One Puts Baby In The Corner

Things have been a little slower in the projects/decorating department because I started a new job.  But, I am committed to keeping up with this blog!  So don't worry, I'm not going anywhere.  And I have a long list of things to do.

The Dining Room, okay really it's an area with a dining room table, but hey, it's more than I had before and so to me it's a dining room!  So, my dining room is about 8 X 11 and is mostly white.  I have posted pictures of it before but here's a reminder.

The table is from Ikea circa 1997 and will be replaced eventually with something similar but sturdier and nicer.  It does the trick for the time being.  You can see the wallpaper swatches on the left and right side.  Isn't that going to look great.  It's call Darcy and its made by Graham and Brown.  I love my chairs from Home Goods, rock on!  They are pearlized white.  Before I moved in, I had bought those chairs because I knew they would be chachacha.  I got two different types in the same material to mix it up. I have three of the high-back T-shaped studded chairs and two of the low-back studded chairs with the silver rings on the backs.  I have four of them around the table and one in the corner.  They are really comfortable too!  Here's a pic of the empty dining room, with the one chair in the corner.

I actually have moved that chair, which is an extra, to the opposite corner by the window.  This corner was empty for awhile.  I thought about getting a corner cabinet of some sort, so I could put some chotchkies out and a lamp for another source of light.  As it turns out, I had a fortuitous moment whilst I was visiting with my friend.  I happened to notice she had a really cool corner table that looked like it would be a perfect fit for my empty corner.  It was on the small side which was perfect because I needed a small piece.  And, the table really didn't match any of my friend's other decor, so I offered to buy it.  My friend explained that she had gotten the table from her other friend and it cost her nothing, so I could have it.  Wasn't that nice of her?  Before I got the table, my friend sent me this picture!

That adorable little girl happens to be my god-daughter imitating a monkey.  While very cute, I certainly thought it would be best to get the table sooner than later.  Now the corner table occupies that empty corner in my dining room.  I just love it.  Here is what it looks like now with the light off and with the light on.

I love my ceramic bowl of faux lemons and the silver buddha head just rocks.  The crystal lamp was one of many that I took home to try out.  This one won because it was the right height and scale for the table. All items from Home Goods of course.  On the second shelf, I have a brown wooden box that houses my glass pen and my special inks.  I am always on the hunt for a white vinyl croc box to use instead.  I actually found two of them at Home Goods but ended up using them in my bedroom above the armoire.  Home Goods has them periodically but I keep finding them in colors and colors that don't work.  So, the hunt will continue.  Back to the corner table, I had originally pictured a larger piece as I have a little extra room, but this one is just so classy and pretty that I'm satisfied. And that's decorating, one corner at a time!
